Stone and Sky - Framed Original
Stone and Sky captures the rugged strength of the Blue Ridge Mountains through bold texture and movement, created entirely with a palette knife. This piece marks an important moment in my artistic journey — my first painting completed using palette knife technique, allowing thick layers of paint to build the land the same way time has shaped the mountains themselves.
Table Rock rises against a soft, glowing sky, where early light brushes the horizon in pink and gold. The contrast between the knife-sculpted terrain and the smooth sky creates a sense of depth, strength, and quiet power — a portrait of Western North Carolina’s enduring landscape.
Every ridge, slope, and shadow was formed by the edge of the knife rather than a brush, giving this original a dimensional surface that changes with light and angle — something that cannot be replicated in a print.
